Three Minute Theology is a series of blog posts, each designed to offer a quick but meaningful look at a subject related to God and faith—something you can read in just a few minutes but reflect on for much longer. Think of this as a starting point, not the full journey. But don’t stop here. Think of this as a starting point, not the finish line. My hope is that these snapshots will spark your curiosity and challenge you to dig deeper, open your Bible, ask questions, and explore how these truths shape your everyday life. After all, the best theology isn’t just learned—it’s lived.

I’ll bet at some point you’ve wondered, “Can I really trust the Bible?” Maybe you’ve heard someone say, “It’s just an old book full of contradictions.” Or maybe you’ve read something in Leviticus and thought, What in the world is happening here? (You’re not alone.)

So how do we know the Bible is legit? Let’s break it down.

1. The Bible Is Historically Reliable

We’re not talking about myths or fairy tales here. The Bible is backed by actual historical events. Archaeological digs keep confirming places and events mentioned in Scripture. For example, historians were skeptical about King David until, guess what? They found evidence of his reign. And the New Testament? We have more manuscript evidence for it than any other ancient document — by a long shot. Homer’s Iliad has about 1,800 copies. The New Testament? Over 5,800. If you trust that Julius Caesar existed, you have way more reason to trust that Jesus did too.

2. The Bible Is Internally Consistent

66 books. Written over 1,500 years. By around 40 different authors. And yet, it tells one unified story — from Genesis to Revelation — about God’s plan to rescue humanity. That’s like getting 40 people to write a novel together over the course of 1,500 years — and it actually makes sense. That’s not luck. That’s divine inspiration.

3. The Bible Has Stood the Test of Time

Empires have tried to erase it. Skeptics have tried to discredit it. Yet here we are — thousands of years later — and the Bible remains the most influential book in human history. Why? Because it’s more than just a book. Hebrews 4:12 says it’s “alive and active.” The reason the Bible still speaks into our lives today is because it’s God’s Word, not just words on a page.

4. Jesus Trusted It

This might be the biggest one. Jesus quoted Scripture constantly — even while being tempted in the wilderness (Matthew 4). He affirmed the Old Testament as God’s Word and promised that the Holy Spirit would guide the writers of the New Testament. If you trust Jesus, you have a reason to trust the Bible.

Bottom Line:

You don’t have to take it on blind faith. The Bible holds up historically, logically, and spiritually. Yes, some parts are tough to understand (looking at you, Leviticus), but the core message is clear: God loves you, He sent Jesus to rescue you, and He’s inviting you into a better story. That’s a message worth trusting.
